The HfG-Archiv Ulm has the task of comprehensively documenting the history of the Ulm School of Design. In its dual function as a museum and archive, it makes the contents and significance of the Hochschule accessible to a broad public. This is done through exhibitions, publications, events as well as the opportunity for scientific research.The foundation of the collection in the HfG-Archiv is formed by the Ulm School of Design own archive (Collection “Stiftung HfG Ulm”) as well as numerous donations and permanent loans from former lecturers and students.

For the HfG Schwä­bisch Gmünd, design is an inno­va­tive disci­pline with scien­tific, social and tech­nical refe­rences. It contri­butes to influ­en­cing cultural, tech­nical and economic deve­lo­p­ments in a respon­sible and sustainable way. The univer­sity deli­ber­ately dispenses with artistic or handi­c­raft prere­qui­sites in the teaching of design basics. In contrast, all five study programmes focus on scien­tific findings and the rational justi­fia­bi­lity of design decisions.

It is the successor to the Geschwister-Scholl-Stiftung, the former sponsor of the Hochschule für Gestaltung. Founded in 1986, it manages the foundation's assets and uses the proceeds generated for the foundation's statutory purposes. The focus of these tasks lies in the promotion of science, research and development of design as well as the preservation of monuments, in this case the preservation of the foundation's own building complex on the Upper Kuhberg in Ulm as a cultural monument according to the monument protection law of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Buildings shape our environment like hardly anything else. With the structure of their spaces, their form, construction and materiality, they shape living spaces in homes and cities. In our degree programs, we teach students about the relationship between people, buildings and the environment and encourage them to develop innovative methods in the field of architecture and construction. Our study programs thus promote technical understanding as well as socio-political commitment and creativity, and help students to identify and pursue their individual career paths.
